3 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS STICK

Despite the fact that at this time of year, self-improvement is on your mind, these things can’t all be achieved at once. This is why, the best approach is to focus clearly on one or two of your most important goals. Try to be realistic, don’t aim too high and ignore reality. This means that you should set clear, realistic goals by making resolutions that you think you can keep. If, for example, your aim is to exercise more frequently, schedule three or four days a week at the gym instead of seven. If you would like to eat healthier, instead of seeing your diet as a form of punishment,try replacing dessert with something else you enjoy, like fruits or yogurt.

Don’t forget: the most essential ingredient for success is to break your goal into a series of steps, and focus on creating sub-goals that are concrete, measurable and time-based. This also means that the more planning you do now, the more likely you are to get there in the end. If you’re successful with the first change, you can go ahead and make another change after a month or so. By making small changes one after the other, you still have the chance to be a whole new you at the end of 2017 — it’s a much more realistic way of reaching what you want. Therefore, give yourself a small reward to maintain motivation and a sense of progress when a goal is reached.

One cannot deny that replacing unhealthy behaviors with healthy ones requires time. However, don’t get overwhelmed and think that you have to change everything in your life. Otherwise, you’ll be part of those who blame everyone and everything apart from themselves — you won’t have the resources needed to change. Instead, draw on your reserves of self-belief and strength, build these qualities as often as you can and be proud of your past achievements. You can plan ahead to ensure success you need to research the change you’re making, you’ll have the resources available when you need them. Finally, make sure to choose goals that will have the greatest impact on your happiness, health and fulfilment. As you understood, there are some really easy ways to set yourself on the path to success, just start one goal.
